Requires a compatible iPhone with iOS 17 or later and existing walking records in Apple Health. Recording depends on iPhone model, how the phone is carried, and steady flat-ground walking; a short walk does not guarantee a reading. · Private TestFlight beta. EvenStep

Support

EvenStep reads walking records that Apple Health has already captured on your iPhone. Here is how to check common questions.

Why no walking data appears

First, open the Apple Health app on your iPhone and check whether walking asymmetry records exist for the selected date. Next, check Apple Health’s data-sharing permissions for EvenStep (menu names vary by iOS version and language). An empty screen can happen when no sample was recorded, when read permission is turned off, or when a query temporarily fails — it does not prove that you did not walk, that your gait is normal or abnormal, or that Apple Health has no records. If EvenStep and Apple Health appear to differ for a date, contact us with your TestFlight build number, time zone, selected date, and screenshots from both apps (with personal details hidden) rather than sending a full Health export.

How Apple Health captures readings

Apple Health records walking asymmetry on compatible iPhones (with iOS 17 or later for EvenStep) during steady walking on flat ground when the phone is carried consistently in a pocket or near the waist. Carrying the phone in a hand, backpack, or coat, or walking only in short indoor bursts, may produce fewer or zero readings even after a full day.

Restoring EvenStep Pro

Today’s readings, 5-year single-day lookup, and the 7-day trend are always free. If you already purchased EvenStep Pro to unlock Month and Year trends, open EvenStep › Settings (or the Pro sheet) and tap Restore Purchase while connected to the internet and signed in to the same Apple account used for the original purchase. Apple verifies the transaction; EvenStep cannot look up Apple IDs directly.

Why left or right is never shown

This walking asymmetry metric stores the proportion of steps where one foot moved faster or slower than the other, without including which foot caused the difference, lateral foot placement, or leg-length difference. EvenStep reflects that boundary honestly.

Reference use, not medical care

EvenStep is designed to help you organize personal walking records and prepare context for family or clinician visits. It does not evaluate posture, balance, or fall risk, and cannot diagnose or treat medical conditions.
